Winchester planners set to approve Black Boy B&B scheme
A WINCHESTER publican looks set to get the go-ahead for a new bed and breakfast business.
David Nicholson, boss of the Black Boy, proposes to knock down the Old Forge next to the pub on Wharf Hill and build a nine-bedroom block.
The city council planning committee is considering the scheme on Thursday (Jan 10) and is recommending the plans be approved.
There have been seven letters of objection but support from the City of Winchester Trust and the council’s own head of economic development who says the plan will help meet a shortfall of hotel beds.
One objection is that the Old Forge, a 19th century building, is of historic merit and should be preserved.
Mr Nicholson also owns the Michelin-starred Black Rat and Black Bottle wine bar. He will call the new B&B the Black Hole.
