Byelection looms for Eastleigh after Huhne resignation
11:57am Monday 4th February 2013 in Winchester
EATLEIGH is set to hold a byelection following the resignation of MP Chris Huhne today.
Mr Huhne dramatically announced he was stepping down from Parliament after pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice.
The former energy secretary was due to stand trial alongside ex-wife Vicky Pryce on charges that he made her take speeding points on his behalf.
But he dramatically changed his plea as the case was about to open at London's Southwark Crown Court this morning.
Making a statement outside the court afterwards, he said: "Having taken responsibility for something that happened 10 years ago, the only proper course of action for me is to resign my Eastleigh seat in Parliament, which I will do shortly."
Prime Minister David Cameron's official spokesman declined to comment on the former minister's resignation, saying only: "It is a matter for Mr Huhne."
It is the second byelection in the town within 20 years. In 1994 David Chidgey won the seat for the Lib Dems following the death of Stephen Milligan.

Found a driving offence inopportune
His wife he suborned
But forgot that a woman scorned
To spite is not immune.

Lib/Lab/Con have signed up to being "business friendly". That means ignoring the needs and desires of the population at large, forcing down wages and importing ever cheaper labour.
We've had the Poles and others prepared to undercut our own low paid workers. The Poles will be undercut by Bulgarians and Romanians. The Bulgarians and Romanians will be undercut by someone else.
This means that those in work will have to support ever more unemployed Europeans in addition to native British people unable to get a job.
The expansion of the European Union will not stop at Europe's boundaries. There is already talk of allowing those African countries along the Mediterranean coast to become members.
The EU bureaucrats, safely ensconced in their nice cosy offices in Brussels and elsewhere, will change it's name and open us to the rest of the world.
The moron Blair and his cronies have already given us a taste of what is to come.

"34 year old mother of one, Angharad Yeo, is one of the latest in a growing number of defections to UKIP from the three parties in Westminster. Her mother Harriet Yeo is Chair of Labour NEC.
Angharad Yeo, a long term Labour supporter and campaigner who helped the party in elections since the age of 17, came to the conclusion after the recent Police Commissioner vote that UKIP better represented her views."
