Alresford civic group disbands as interest drops
THE Alresford District Partnership has voted to disband after declining interest in its work.
The ADP formed around the turn of the Millennium to bring together the numerous groups, clubs and people in the town to discuss local issues.
It once attracted 50 people a meeting but only eight or nine people were at the AGM, including several elected councillors, and no members of the public.
Chairman Ken Yeldham said: “It is disappointing but there has not been much support in recent years. The local politicians got into it and the public interest declined.
“We will have a final meeting to formally close it down, it is a pity as it has been a good forum.”
Mr Yeldham cited the recent controversy over the town plan and the requirement to find space for 500 homes over the next 20 years as an example of where the ADP could have played a role. “The town council does not appear to have been listening to what the public wants.”
