A NEW mobile phone is set to make life easier for older people in Winchester.

Age UK has launched a phone designed to make calls at the touch of one button and are handing them out at the charity's High Street shop.

Philip Voce, chairman of Age UK Winchester, said the phones would be a boost for Winchester residents.

He said: “Older people in Winchester often tell us that mobile phones are just too complex. At the same time, families and friends worry that they are reluctant to use mobiles, even in emergencies.

“I believe older people will feel more confident using this new mobile and it will make life so much easier for them. It will also provide reassurance for families and carers.”

The phones, which cost £55, have a maximum of eight buttons, which can be pre-set to make instant calls without having to dial. The phone's number is also written clearly on the back.

They are also available from Age UK Winchester's office in the Colebrook Centre, Colebrook Street.
