Police arrest Winchester teenagers for bike thefts
WINCHESTER police have arrested six teenagers and a man in an investigation into a spate of bike thefts, police said today.
Police executed a warrant at a house in Battery Hill, Stanmore, as part of a probe into the theft of cycles from the Winchester area in October 2012. Seventeen bikes were recovered worth around £3,500.
Officers are now appealing for bike owners to check their cycles.
PC Dave Brown, said: “We are concerned that due to the cold time of year, people may not be using their bikes or regularly checking their sheds and may not have noticed their cycles are missing.
“I would urge members of the community to check their sheds and inform the police if anything is missing. I would also like to speak to anyone who may have been offered a bike for sale which they think may have been stolen.”
A 22-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, two 18-year-old men, a 17-year-old youth, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old boy all from Winchester were arrested between March 6-15 for alleged handling stolen goods.
They have been released on bail until April.
