Pedestrian injured in crash near Boomtown
PEOPLE heading for the Boomtown Festival faced delays this morning after a serious crash shut a major road near the site.
The A31 Petersfield Road eastbound was closed after the incident between the Percy Hobbs roundabout and the junction with the A272, close to the Holiday Inn.
A pedestrian was in collision with a car at around 7.30am and the victim, believed to be a male, was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said their injuries are not life threatening.
The road is likely to be closed until around 11.30am as officers continue investigations.
The crash happened on the main access road to the festival which is being attended by 30,000 people at Matterley Estate.
It was unclear if the injured person was heading for the event but pedestrians are rare on the busy dual carriageway.
Traffic was diverted off Spitfire Link through Bar End and up to Alresford Road which then links to the Percy Hobbs roundabout which is close to the festival entry points.
The westbound A31 is currently open.
Police are advising drivers to avoid the area.
