Winchester women make themselves heard during trip to Parliament
1:00pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in Winchester
WINCHESTER women made quite a noise in Parliament earlier this month.
Their visit coincided with Swansea Day, which was organised by a group of Welsh MPs and featured a traditional Welsh male choir singing in Westminster Hall.
Not to be outdone, the Hampshire women cleared their throats and performed English favourite Jerusalem.
Jo Stacey, of Otterbourne WI, said: “Westminster Hall really rang out with our rendition of Jerusalem when Otterbourne WI visited the seat of power. It was such an interesting visit our members had, meeting our MP Steve Brine and being able to sing on the steps of Westminster Hall. Watching the Speaker’s Procession and taking the tour was truly fantastic. The singing was definitely a bonus.”
Mr Brine added: “I love being able to open up Parliament to constituents and do it a lot but this one was really special as I don’t think I have seen anything quite like the incredible sight of a group of my constituents singing their hearts out in Westminster Hall before.
“I hope they all really enjoyed the visit and those boys from Swansea will remember who they’re taking on next time.”
