Villagers toast beer festival near Winchester
12:17pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in Winchester
HAMPSHIRE villagers raised a glass to toast another successful beer festival last weekend.
Colden Common held its annual event from Friday to Sunday (Sept 22) welcoming hundreds of punters through the doors.
The festival welcomed 20 beers from local breweries and even boasted an exclusive ale with a cask of Havant Harvested, one of only 14 made and the only one distributed to the South.
It is the ninth time the event has been held at Colden Common Community Centre and organiser Maureen Rees said she was keen to retain its local roots.
She said: “We don’t really go outside Hampshire with our beers and ciders and we always try to support new breweries and microbreweries as well as hosting the old favourites.
“The community centre is self-sustaining and this is one of our two or three big fundraising events of the year. We would like to raise £2,000, which is what we got last year, to help keep the centre going.”
Among the entertainment was a disco on Saturday night, live bands throughout and a family fun day on Sunday afternoon featuring children’s entertainer Juggling Jake.
