Winchester school gives students grand new musical instrument
A WINCHESTER school has bought a very grand musical instrument to help their students take up a new hobby.
Kings’ School is home to a handmade grand piano after the parent-teacher association raised some serious cash in order to help the children develop their musical abilities.
Made by Chris Venables of Ringwood, the £14,000 instrument was bought as an upgrade after the target of £12,000 was exceeded following months and months of fundraising throughout the summer.
Richard James, assistant head and link for the PTA, said: “Over the last academic year, our parent teacher association, KSA, raised £14,000, mainly through our summer fair. With that we have purchased a beautiful grand piano.”
In traditional Blue Peter style, the school had a ‘totaliser’ to record the progress of the fundraising.
Mr James added: “We have got some really good pianists and it will be developmental for new arrivals too.”
The newest addition to the music department will be the centre piece for the school’s spring concert which will be held in March.
