WINCHESTER University’s best-known postgraduate TV presenter has completed his PhD.

Alex Langlands has become a popular face appearing in BBC2’s Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm and Wartime Farm.

His PhD was a blend of historical and archaeological research, focusing on the early medieval landscape of Wessex and the theme of travel and communication.

“I have had a thoroughly enjoyable time here at the university. The PhD has enabled me to set in motion some of my skills as an archaeologist whilst also learning new and innovative ways of thinking about this important part of our nation’s history.

“I am forever indebted to my supervisors, Professor Barbara Yorke and Ryan Lavelle for the support and enthusiasm they have given me over the last five years.

“Now it is time to get out in to the big, wide world and put my new qualification to work,” added Alex.

“I’ve already got a number of projects in the development stages but as far as the University of Winchester is concerned, I hope this is not goodbye."
