'Fund-razors' celebrate Movember achievements with with a big shave
A FURRY-lipped team of Hampshire “fund-razors” brought Movember to an end with a big shave on Monday (Dec 2).
Local team the Wintachies called time on their campaign with a cutthroat shave at the Black Boy pub in Winchester.
Movember, a worldwide phenomenon, runs for the month of November, during which time members must grow a “mo”.
David Nicholson, the landlord, got in on the act and had his cookie-duster removed by Karen Bosher, from the Kutz salon in North Walls.
Team captain, Mike Kerby, said: “A final ‘fund-razor’ was a sweepstake based on the number of strokes of the razor it took Karen to shave David – the answer at 2,150 was a surprise to everyone!
“This is such a worthwhile cause. We not only make many more men aware that they need to take more interest in any symptoms that become apparent and take the trouble to go to see a doctor without delay, but also raise money towards research into the causes and treatment of prostate and testicular cancer.”
Movember started in Australia in 2003 with 30 men and by 2013 there were 1 million participants. The UK has the largest number, at 254,887, who have together raised in excess of £13m.
