A WINCHESTER charity is celebrating after an eventful week of winning awards and meeting royalty.

Members of staff at Fixers, of St Thomas Street, were awarded for their work on media campaigns targeting mental health issues at a ceremony at the British Institute in London two weeks ago.

They went on to take home a Mind Media Award for their films, which were broadcast on ITV, beating off stiff competition from ‘Chasing The Saturdays’ by E! Entertainment UK and ‘Worlds Maddest Job Interview’ by Channel 4.

The very same week, chief executive Margo Horsley was invited to attend the ‘Step Up to Serve’ launch at Buckingham Palace where she met Prince Charles on November 21.

Margo said: “I was delighted to attend the launch of Step Up to Serve and support the aim to double the number of young people engaged in social action by 2020.

“We need a flexible approach to appeal to hard to reach and vulnerable young people who wouldn’t normally sign up for traditional groups and that is exactly what we already have at Fixers.

“Fixers are young people who use their past to fix the future. We make innovative resources for them to build their campaign and give them a voice.

“They don’t necessarily even label that what they’re doing as social action – they just want to change something that they have experienced and they are motivated from the heart to do so.”
