CHILDREN in Hampshire smashed through their fund-raising target for charity by kicking up a storm.

Powerhouse Taekwondo Club students, in Swanmore and Southsea, hoped to raise money for people in the Philippines affected by typhoon Haiyan by completing 7,500 kicks simultaneously.

Motivated by their instructors and their mascot, Master Fang the tiger, students kicked as many times as they could within half an hour, spurred on by patent-helpers.

Instructor, Darren Bailey, said: “Everyone worked really hard and the total kicks quickly increased. After half an hour, the total number was calculated and everyone was delighted to have far exceeded the target. Between the two venues the students achieved 12,800 kicks!”

Students who took part raised over £2,000 in sponsorship from family and friends and the total looks set to get even bigger as donations keep coming in via the Justgiving website.
