WHEN the audience saw Eastleigh students tap dancing at a Christmas performance they didn’t know they’d be in for such a good show.

Hundreds of toes tapped away during numerous song and dance numbers at this year’s Barton Peveril show including those of a gold medallist.

Viki Sarker, 17, from Southampton, has just returned from the IDO World Tap Dance Championships in Germany which saw the England team line up six gold, two silver and two bronze medals alongside a raft of other top ranking scores.

Viki, a former Woodlands School pupil, took part in the international competition earlier this month earning her first prize alongside her teammates in the Tap Attack dance group.

The group’s formation dance won first place in its class, securing a coveted gold medal and putting extra spring in Viki’s Step in Time routine, the Mary Poppins favourite that opened the show.

More than 100 students took part in the festive celebrations, 35 of whom are studying the school’s new musical theatre course. There were also performances by the choir, concert band, soul band, string quartet and college production group.
