VOLUNTEERS are being called upon to help Winchester children who need support.

Friends of the Family, are urgently looking for 10 new helpers, as part of their 5s to 13s project, who can support young children when they are at their most vulnerable age and their families.

The charity is looking for friendly, caring individuals who can listen to others and who are able to offer two hours a week after school.

Successful volunteers are given comprehensive training before being carefully matched to the needs of a family.

Project leader, Samantha Hunt, said: “Volunteers are expected to offer the children and their families respect, practical help and sustained emotional support, encouraging them to find their own strengths and build their confidence. In return, Friends of the Family are able to offer volunteers ongoing training and support, reimbursement of travel expenses and the chance to make a real difference to a family’s life.

“This unique programme is a voluntary befriending service for families with children aged 5 to 13 years, offering long term, nonjudgmental support in the family’s own home.”
