THE HAMPSHIRE village that saw the creation of one of the most celebrated novels of the Austen era is to host a series of talks.
Gillian Dow, of the University of Southampton, will introduce four internationally renowned speakers to mark the bicentenary of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park with a symposium at Chawton House Library.
The talks will take place in the very village the novel was written in.
On Saturday, March 8, between 10am-4pm, four speakers will take to the floor to talk about the controversial works to mark the occasion.
Katie Halsey, of the University of Stirling, talks about Mansfield Park: Then and Now; Deidre Shaun Lynch, of the University of Toronto, discusses Quoting Fanny: On Editing Mansfield Park; Anthony Mandal, of Cardiff University talks about 1814: A Bad Year for the Novel and Mary Ann O’Farrell, of Texas A&M University, finalises with The Arbitrary in Austen.
Tickets cost £40, including lunch and refreshments and concessions are available for students at a price of £33.
