A WINCHESTER woman is teaming up with students to raise money for a heart muscle disease charity.

Anne Slaughter, 72, of Harestock, was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2012, and will be joining hospitality students at Eastleigh College for their Pancake Party on March 4, as part of the Cardiomyopathy Association’s Great Pancake Party week which runs from March 1-8.

Students will be making as many pancakes as they can, and getting creative with the fillings, with all proceeds going to charity.

They hope to raise a total of £25,000 in their first national event, and Mrs Slaughter says it’s important for people to be educated about the lesser known condition.

She said: “I really wanted to play my part in helping the CMA with this campaign. I want to support the education of doctors and nurses so that cardiomyopathy is diagnosed more quickly.”

The party will be held at the Red Carpet Restaurant on the main campus between 11am and 2pm, with pancakes starting at £1.50.
