FIREFIGHTERS were called out when a blaze broke out at Winchester cathedral yesterday evening (February 21).
At around 7.40pm, nine firemen from Winchester fire station and two appliances were called to the scene after a fire started in the void of the roof.
No one is reported to have been injured and no structural damage was found.
Winchester station crew manager Phil Foxton said: “I think they’d been having some sort of entertainment going on and a lighting rig was left on a wooden plank which started the fire.
“It was a small fire and was only brief. It lasted only about half an hour, maybe 40 minutes.”
