SIX people have been arrested following a drugs raid in Winchester.

A warrant was issued on suspicion they were supplying class A. Officers swooped a home in Stockbridge Road on Thursday afternoon (March 13), discovering cash and what they believe to be a stash of drugs.

Four men from Winchester aged 38, 39, 42 and 47, along with a 19-year-old man of no fixed abode, and a 29-year-old woman from Basingstoke, were arrested. They are currently being questioned by police.

The move follows an investigation into the supply of illegal drugs as part of the Operation Fortress campaign.

Operation Fortress is a joint operation between police and other agencies to tackle drug-related violence.

One of the aims is to restrict the supply of class A drugs and officers are keen to hear from anyone who is concerned about illegal drugs or drug-related crime in their neighbourhood.

They say residents should look out for unusual activity including a sudden increase in visitors to a home, with people only staying for a very short time, short exchanges between small groups of people at or close to a flat or house, and residents leaving a flat or house on numerous occasions throughout the day and returning a short time later. They also say people loitering in an area and using their mobile phones frequently, and new-looking or hire cars parked outside a house or flat that wouldn't normally be there could be suspicious.

Anyone with concerns should call police on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
