A WINCHESTER support group aimed at helping disabled people to get out and about is calling for more members.

The former Badger Farm Group, which meets every other Thursday morning, was disbanded soon after council cutbacks.

But now a group of plucky outgoing individuals are determined to keep it from closing.

The Thursday Group, as they now prefer to be called, is made of organiser Helen Ribbick, Lucy Curtis, Izzy Castle and David Edward – all of whom have mixed abilities.

“We were supported by social services who pulled out due to cutbacks and now we run it ourselves,” Helen said. “Our group is made up of people with all sorts of varied abilities and we just like to get together to have some fun.

“It’s more of a social gathering than anything. We like getting together to talk about different things, play games and sometimes go out to eat.

“Anyone is welcome to join us even if it just means getting out on their own for a little while. We use Winchester’s Dial-a-Ride to get about which is quite convenient.”
