A NURSING home near Winchester is celebrating after the official launch of a new garden gazebo.

The Flowerdown Nursing Home, on Harestock Road, is partnered with Sainsbury’s, who helped develop the garden for the residents.

The Mayor of Winchester, Ernie Jeffs, and Mayoress Barbara Jeffs, attended the official opening and Easter party on Saturday (April 19). Mel Andrews, PR ambassador for Winchester city centre Sainsbury’s said it was a success.

“It was nice to have the residents and their families there to celebrate making the garden a much nicer place,” she said.

“Before this work started there was absolutely nothing there.”

The garden has had a new pond, wheelchair height flowerbeds and now the gazebo, to encourage residents to use the space in all weather conditions.

The Easter party saw residents compete to make the best bonnet, a book stall, and tea and cake.
