UKIP protest against threat of Winchester hospital closure

Andover Advertiser: UKIP protest against threat of Winchester hospital closure UKIP protest against threat of Winchester hospital closure

UKIP councillors are up in arms over the future of a Winchester hospital.

They protested outside the Royal Hampshire County Hospital on Wednesday (April 30) to raise awareness of the threat to the hospital and its services.

It comes amid proposals to build a centralised £120 million critical treatment centre between Winchester and Basingstoke.

Hampshire County Councillor Andy Moore led the campaign.

He said: “They are trying to close our hospital and our services are going to be affected.

“It’s a very important part of health and it serves our local community. I want transparency.”

Typically irresponsible of UKIP. It's much more complicated an issue than closure....more a question of proposals to move acute services to a new hospital. The clinicians want it because they believe it will save lives as such moves have in London. There are lots of important issues to be considered, worked through and consulted upon before it might happen and it's far too important a matter to be politicised by opportunists.

So, presumably UKIP don't support those living between Winchester & Basingstoke etc. who would benefit from the new hospital. Never mind that RHCH is NOT closing!! Vote grabbing scaremongering that only the terminally stupid will fall for.

Curious to see UKIP protesting this, given it was one of their Winchester candidates who supported abolishing the NHS.

But hyping the story up is. Moore knows what is happening. The RHCH will not close; it may lose some specialist services to a new specialist hospital which experience elsewhere is showing improves healthcare.
