BROWNIE groups from across Hampshire celebrated their 100th birthday this weekend.

On Saturday May 17 and Sunday May 18 more than 50 units from across Winchester and Southampton took part in the ‘Look at Us’ relay walk across the county.

2nd South Wonston Brownies started off at Tubbs Hall in Kings Worthy on Saturday at 11am, and handed ‘the baton’ over to 1st and 5th Winchester City units on the green at River Park Leisure centre at 1pm.

They then walked to the Hospital of St Cross, off St Cross Road, to hand over to 1st and 2nd Harestock Brownies, and were joined by Anne Falconer, County Commissioner.

She said: “We are celebrating 100 years of Brownies, and this is part of ‘Look at Us’ week, and is saying we have been here for 100 years and we are still going strong and still relevant to today’s girls, and doing lots of fun activities.”

Each troop carried a ‘birthday bear’ with them, and on Sunday there was an event at Foxlease in the New Forest where they were all reunited for activities and games.

Each unit walked two miles in celebration of the Brownies centenary.
