A NEW centre for TEFL teaching will open in Winchester this autumn.

The language school English Naturally was given the go-ahead by the Trinity Exam Board to offer courses training people to teach English as a foreign language.

Director Chris Polatch said: “We’ll be offering courses for locals on a part-time basis initially, but we also plan to run full-time courses. These could be attended by locals and by people from around the world who will find Winchester an attractive location to do the Trinity course.”

The director of studies, Jane Gamble, has worked on the project to put together the course website and programme. She said: “We spent over a year putting our proposal together and it was gone over by the finest of toothcombs by Trinity, who sent back suggestions for revisions before finally giving us the go-ahead.

“There are lots of dubious TEFL courses on offer, but the Trinity certificate is highly respected worldwide. Successful graduates of our course should be able to find work in any country they choose.”

The first course, which will be delivered on a part-time basis, is due to commence in September.
