Costa closes Winchester branch

Andover Advertiser: Costa closes Winchester branch Costa closes Winchester branch

COSTA has closed its branch at the Brooks Centre in Winchester.

The coffee chain has shut the cafe and placed a poster in the window thanking customers.

It has a second and busier branch on the High Street.

The shop was today being stripped of fittings.

It is another blow for the shopping centre which has several empty units.

And yet our city council carries on with the unwanted Silver Street project.

Where will the shops come from?

Another empty shop in the Brooks. Maybe the rest will move out and the hideous monstrosity could be removed in its entirety. Let's just hope the Silver Hill project doesn't turn out to be another eyesore blot on the landscape.

In an ideal world, Silver Hill will go ahead (an even more ideal world would be with a far better design than the hideous architecture currently planned but we've been railroaded there), and all the shops in The Brooks moved to new premises. Then, The Brooks could be completely rebuilt as a leisure location with a cinema, restaurants and decent external architecture. If anyone is familiar with The Printworks in Manchester, then a smaller scale version, appropriately designed so that there is no disturbance from residents at the Friarsgate end.

It is interesting though as that Costa (like almost all branches) has always seemed busy.
