CYCLISTS will saddle up this summer to remember a historic King.

They will ride the 52 miles from the birthplace of Alfred the Great in Wantage to his burial place in Hyde Abbey in Winchester.

The W2W Ride has been organised by Hyde900, a community group set up in 2010 to organise events to mark 900 years since the foundation of Hyde Abbey. Since the anniversary, the group has continued to organise events and the W2W Ride is now in its seventh year.

The cyclists will be meeting at King Alfred's commemorative statue in Wantage market place at 10am on July 20.

Entry is £7 for members of Hyde900 and £10 for non-members.

Transportation can be arranged for participants travelling from Winchester for an additional £15 but must be booked in advance.
