IT was the last hurrah for the Mayor of Winchester before he retired after a year jam-packed with fundraisers and celebrations.

Around 70 people turned out for the prestigious event and the three-course dinner, provided by Bengal Sage, to give their thanks to Cllr Ernie Jeffs for his duties and fundraising efforts over the last year.

“We had a very good evening,” Cllr Jeffs said. “It was absolutely superb. It is put on by the council every year to give the public the opportunity to thank the Mayor for his service during the year.

“There were two speakers, one to thank the Mayor directly and another who gives a talk based on the retiring Mayor.

“My family came down from the Midlands which was nice and everyone I spoke to seemed to enjoy themselves. It was an excellent meal and everyone enjoyed it.”

Cllr Jeffs said he’s looking forward to getting back into his seat on the council where he will return to his role on the planning committee.
