AFTER the booming thunderstorm of the morning, the sunshine beaming across the High Street was just the start of a day promising fun and laughter.

Thousands of families lined the streets of Bishop’s Waltham on Saturday (June 7) for the 20th annual Carnival and Show.

Organised by Bishop’s Waltham Rotary, who celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, Southsea Batala Band kicked off the procession in the square, followed by classic and vintage cars leading up to Hoe Road Sports Ground.

Rotary president, Colin Carter, said the event is important for community spirit.

“It’s becoming harder to put these events on, but if you don’t do it, you don’t get people out. It brings people together.”

The procession was loud and proud as it made its way down the bunting topped High Street, with the theme ‘Heroes and Villains’.
