A WINCHESTER man has revolutionised the art of complaining by developing a specially-made app.

James Walker, founder and CEO of Resolving Ltd, became so incensed after a dispute with his energy supplier he designed an app with the aim of making complaining much simpler.

The app, called resolver, is free on some smart phones and tablets and will soon become available on android too.

Its development has seen the company’s worth rocket from £50,000 to £5million in the two years since it was founded.

“We are improving the concept of complaints,” Mr Walker said. “Around 40 per cent of people don’t complain because they think it’s too hard but we’ve just made it easy.

“No one has ever done anything like this before. We’re the only company who actually like complaints!”

Mr Walker works mostly from his back garden at his home in Stockbridge Road but said the recent launch, held at 10 Downing Street, gave the company a massive boost and has meant resolver now receives somewhere in the region of 50 complaints per week.

The app contains phone numbers and legal advice based on individual companies ranging from energy suppliers to insurance companies and even holiday companies. It logs complaints, has ready-to-use templates, records your phone calls with customer service departments and even reminds you when to send another badgering email working to individual service level agreements.

“We have around 1,500 companies in the system at the moment,” Mr Walker added. “It will allow you to email customer services, then the head of customer services, then the managing director and eventually the ombudsman.”

Mr Walker came up with the idea following a spat with British Gas after they charged him £50 for a call-out for his broken boiler which took him three months to get back.

He said: “I just thought it shouldn’t be this hard and it shouldn’t take me this long. So I built it and soon we’ll be rolling out trials with the Government.”
