OUR materialist culture is the subject of a public meeting in Winchester on July 8.

Dr Roz Sunley from the University of Winchester is the lead speaker on “Stuff or Happiness?” at the coming Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC ) and Friends of the Earth meeting at 7.30 pm at the United Church, Jewry Street.

Dr Sunley leads the Winchester Masters in Business Administration and teaches Responsible Management/Business Ethics in the Winchester Business School.

She believes that people will increase their wellbeing if they break the cycle of consumption, spending and growth.

Susie Phillips, Climate Action Coordinator from WinACC, said: “This stimulating evening will how we’ve been fooled into believing that our well-being depends on buying more things and getting more money.

“We want to get people thinking about ways they can live more simply and have a happier life, as well as saving resources for our children and grandchildren’s futures. Can wanting less give us more?”

The event is free and open to all, with refreshments from 7.15pm.
