A WINCHESTER nursery is celebrating its decade anniversary with its first ever art festival.

Two Hampshire artists are running workshops at Henry’s Kindergarten, based at Henry Beaufort School just off Andover Road, for the five-day festival from Monday, July 7, until Friday, July 11.

It celebrates art in its different forms, and included clay, pastels, weaving, bead work, body painting and digital art activities.

Rosemary Baker, early years practitioner, said the idea came about after a link with the art department at the main school.

“We wanted to do something to mark our ten year anniversary,” she said. “I think with the success of this we would love to do it again. We have had suggestions from staff that maybe we should have a dance or music festival. Other suggestions have come up from it, so we might do it on a rolling basis. It would be wonderful to have an annual event that celebrates creativity – that’s what this nursery is really trying to showcase, the creativity of young children.”

Working alongside Fez Baker, artist and illustrator, and Tracy Lyons, head of art at Henry Beaufort, the pre-school has created lots of different pieces, including a large material collage made from throwing balls dipped in paint at paper.

It will be displayed in the outdoor play area.
