WINCHESTER physiotherapist has abandoned her normal base at Chandler’s Ford hospital and headed for the Commonwealth Games.

Karen Jordan is just one of nearly 1,500 medical volunteers at the multi-national event based at the Scotstoun sports campus.

The 36-year-old, from Fulflood, works at the Excel centre at Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital and has been treating sportsmen and women for over 15 years.

She said: “I had a great time volunteering at the Olympics and couldn’t wait to offer my help again.

“We will be mainly providing hands-on physio for all competing teams such as massage, joint mobilisation techniques, taping and management of acute injuries.

“Events like this always have a fantastic atmosphere with everyone cheering people on, it really is a privilege to be working there and I can’t wait to be a part of it; there is nothing quite like it.”

Head of Business Operations at Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital, Jonny Husband, said: “We are really delighted for Karen; it is always great when our staff are selected to be part of such high profile events.

“She is key member of our team here at Excel and we know that the athletes will be in excellent hands.”
