AN APPEAL has been launched by Twyford Parish Council to keep parts of the village litter-free.

Reports of rubbish being left at Twyford Meads has forced the council to urge locals to pay more attention to littering.

An email from the parish council said: “People come from miles around to enjoy what we have on our doorstep all the time. Most people take their litter away. However some litter is still left behind.

“Extra bins have been placed in Shawford on the towpath and by the Station and another below the Church in Twyford; this is Winchester City Council lending a helping hand.

“But litter still needs to be collected from the locks and just outside in the field where most people sit. A few Shawford residents have been the main collectors and can usually cope, but in the present hot weather just as school term has finished and holidays begin, they need help.

“If everyone takes a single carrier bag with them when they go there, it will be kept under control.”
