A WEBSITE survey has shown strong opposition to a leisure centre staying in Winchester city centre.
A poll on the Chronicle website that closed yesterday attracted a record 728 votes.
Asked is North Walls Park the best place for a new leisure centre in Winchester, three-quarters said no, 24 per cent said yes, one per cent did not know.
The future of the River Park Leisure centre has been hugely controversial for the last 18 months with the city council proposing to redevelop the current centre and expand onto the cricket pitch.
The Fit for the Future lobby group wants the centre to be moved to the Bar End playing fields.
