MARWELL Zoo is hosting a large scale event to help people learn more about biodiversity.

The BioBlitz will help visitors get involved with surveying and monitoring local wildlife and green spaces giving everyone, from amateurs to budding specialists, a chance to share information about native species.

Grainne Hartigan, education co-ordinator at Marwell Wildlife, said: “We are very excited to be hosting our first BioBlitz here at Marwell Zoo on Saturday, September 13. We may be better known for our more exotic residents, but why not join us as a ranger on one of our free survey sessions and help us spot and identify as many different native species as we can.

“This is a great opportunity for all ages to get outdoors and have fun whilst learning more about the incredible native wildlife we have.”

In addition to the ranger activities, there will be lots to do around the zoo’s Science and Learning Centre, including building a bug hotel, a craft table and a chance to examine freshwater under the microscope. Experts will be on hand to answer any questions about British wildlife.

There will be a native species touch table where guests can learn about wildlife, with games and quizzes, and the zoo’s Cold Blooded Corner offers native species face-painting.

Ranger sessions are open to both members and non-members and the event is free.
