FURTHER inquiries are being conducted into the cause of death of a five-year-old who died in a burning car.

The inquest opened yesterday into the death of Tommy Sheldon who was pulled from the blazing car at Hursley near Winchester last month.

Tommy Sheldon, from Southampton, died in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children two weeks after the fire in Merdon Castle Lane on August 11.

His mother, 37, and sister, six, were seriously injured in the fire.

The police have launched a murder investigation.

A pathologist has told Senior Coroner Grahame Short that he needs time for further investigation to determine exact cause of death.

Mr Short adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
