POLICE have launched a murder investigation after the death of a Hampshire man.

The 32-year-old died at North Hampshire Hospital last night after sustaining severe injuries.

A 38-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, both from Farnborough, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Police believe the man was assaulted inside a flat in Alton on Tuesday.

It is also thought there was a disturbance at the flats in Lansdowne Court, Anstey Road, earlier that day.

Detectives from the Hampshire Major Investigation Team said officers are carrying out numerous enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Detective Inspector Simon Baker, senior investigating officer, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Anstey Road or Lansdowne Road areas of Alton on Tuesday afternoon or evening, who may have seen or heard a disturbance.”

He said the Alton man’s identity cannot be revealed until formal identification has taken place.

There are officers in Anstey Road today to assist investigations.

His family have been informed and a post-mortem is due to take place today.
