A WINCHESTER boy is the youngest to complete a 109 km cycle ride through the New Forest.
Sam Edmunds, aged eight, polished off the Gridiron road cycling event on Sunday without getting off to rest once.
Sam is a member of VCV (Velo Club Venta) a Winchester cycling group and a pupil at Harestock Primary School.
He completed the 69-mile ride with his dad, also Sam.
Sam junior said: “It wasn’t too difficult, we stopped at the two feed station check-points and I had lots of biscuits and pasta. I love cycling and the atmosphere when I cross the finish line.”
Sam senior said: “Towards the end during the last 15 miles and some of the bigger hills, I genuinely had to work really hard to keep up with Sam who just stood up on his pedals and was off like Chris Froome! He’s a brilliant climber with excellent endurance.
“I am so proud and it was the best days riding I’ve ever had.”
