AN AWARD-winning journalist investigating government surveillance and national security is set to share his experiences at a Winchester University lecture.

Luke Harding, foreign correspondent for The Guardian and author of books on the Russian state, WikiLeaks and spying whistleblower Edward Snowden, will give a wide-ranging talk entitled The Drama of Current Affairs on Tuesday.

The former Guardian Moscow bureau chief was deported by Russian authorities in 2011, a move the newspaper claims was motivated by his critical articles on the Putin regime.

His book WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy, written with David Leigh, was made into a 2013 film starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

The lecture, organised by Hampshire Writing Society, takes place in the university's Stripe building from 7.30pm.

Admission is free for students and society members, with visitors paying £5. Doors open at 7pm.
