A CLAMPDOWN is needed on partygoers who litter and make noise in Winchester city centre, a meeting heard.

Mike Coker-Davies called for pointed bricks to be fitted on walls around Upper Brook Street to stop "screaming" youngsters sitting with takeaways after late events at the Vodka Bar nightclub.

Residents in Upper Brook Street have long complained about licensing hours and late-opening takeaways, which they say encourage people to stay on the streets as late as 4am.

University and college students pose a particular problem, PCSO Neil Parker told the police and communities together (PACT) meeting on Monday.

Andrew Murphy, neighbourhood services officer, said Winchester City Council’s new ticketing and education regime will help to prevent further litter when introduced in the coming weeks.
