ANOTHER resident garage in the centre of Winchester is set to go under the hammer just a few weeks after another sold for a record price.

The guided leasehold for lock-up A, at the rear of 6-7 Cranworth Road, Fulflood, is on sale at £15,000-£20,000 after Garage H recently sold for £23,000; £8,000 above the estimate.

It is one of 17 lots being sold by regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson, at the auction which starts at 11am, at The Ageas Bowl, next Thursday, May 7.

Rob Marchant, auctioneer, said: “A similar garage in the same block last month sold in auction for £23,000 because of its proximity to the railway station, given the parking issues in the cathedral city. We anticipate that bidders will be voting with their wallets on auction day, which coincides with the General Election.”

He added: “Record employment on the back of a strengthening economy, coupled with the ultra-low interest rate and negligible inflation, makes property an attractive proposition compared to the paltry returns currently generated by cash on deposit.

“There’s also a new dimension to this auction and future ones - we anticipate keen interest from bidders, aged 55 or over, who arrive flushed with their newly-released pensions pot following what is thought to be the largest revolution in people’s personal finances in decades.

“One person told me he is looking to free up some of the money for a buy-to-let property through our auction.”
