IT'S the last chance to sign up for one of the biggest fundraisers in the city.

Organisers from local homeless charity, Trinity, are encouraging everyone to take part in the Big Sleep Out in the grounds of the Cathedral on May 8.

Nominated as charity of the year by estate agents Belgarum, the charity hopes to get as many people as possible for what is the biggest push of the calendar year.

Since January, Belgarum staff members have been busily collecting donated food from Sainsbury's in Badger Farm and Greggs in High Street a few times a month to help Trinity spend less on fresh fruit and vegetables.

Their fundraising culminated in a cooking frenzy at the centre's kitchen where some 50 people engorged in some spaghetti bolognese.

Michelle Gardner, director of strategy and fundraising for Trinity, said: “After all that Belgarum have done for Trinity through volunteering at the drop in centre, we are really excited that the team are also getting involved in the Big Sleep Out in two weeks time. We'd like to express our thanks to John Leeson and his team for all their hard work and fundraising for us, as well as donating money to sponsor the event.”

Mr Leeson, of Belgarum, added: “Trinity does such important work with homeless people, that we were only too pleased to support them throughout the year, with money and by donating our time too. We hope many other local people and businesses will join us in taking part in the Big Sleep Out to help tackle homelessness in our local community.”

Ten per cent of the event proceeds will also go to Winchester Churches Nightshelter.
