A WINCHESTER city centre pub is set to reopen following a £50,000 refurbishment.

The Crown and Anchor in The Broadway has undergone a dramatic facelift both inside and out and will open its doors once again on Friday.

Work started on the refurbishment on November 6, and has taken more than two weeks to complete.

The pub is leased from Greene King and run by Harnser Inns.

Situated in the city centre and next to the coach station, the pub has the ingredients to be a success, and landlord Steve Mellor is hoping the facelift will attract tourists.

The pub will now have new signage, interiors including flooring, wallpaper and a sports bar.

Mr Mellor reiterated that many things that made the pub a hit with regulars will stay the same.

He said that darts will continue on Mondays, cribbage on Tuesdays and pool on Wednesdays.

The pubs menu also hasn't changed, however there will be more specials on offer.

He said the revamp was much needed as the pub had not been "touched" and refurbished for years.

Mr Mellor, said: "I am very excited about the refurbishment, it is much needed and it will give the place a new lease of life."

To mark the occasion there will be a launch event on tomorrow (Friday) however a time has not been confirmed, and there will also be a band playing in the pub on Sunday from 6pm to 8pm.
