A DEVELOPER has applied to build more than 80 homes on the site of a former medieval manor in Wickham.

Land in The Glebe, off School Road, would be developed under plans by Croudace Homes.

The outline proposal for 82 houses includes new pedestrian and cycle access between School Road and the B2177 Southwick Road, as well as changes to the A334 roundabout.

The area is rich in heritage, with a medieval manor site to the north and old Roman settlement to the south.

City archaeologists have recommended a "buffer" between the old manor grounds and any new buildings. They said a nearby moated area should be saved from development due to its "high sensitivity".

The outline application was submitted to Winchester City Council this month and can be viewed via its online planning portal. Layout, appearance and other details are expected to follow.
