WINCHESTER'S open air car park in Chesil Street is set to close on Monday as work begins on a £15 million care facility.

The facility's 83 bays will make way for 52 Extra Care flats for the elderly, with work expected to finish by autumn 2017.

Meanwhile, 20 bays in Chesil Street's multi-storey have been reserved for 'zone X' residents affected by the temporary loss of on-street bays during the work.

Residents in zones X and W are entitled to free overnight parking in the multi-storey, from 6pm till 8am.

All on-street and multi-storey bays will be open until the end of next week, a Winchester City Council spokesman said.
