AMATEUR athletes pounded and paddled their way through Winchester.

The Winchester Pedal Paddle Race came to the city on Sunday and saw 320 athletes take to the city streets for the event.

The unique triathlon involves cycling, running and kayak their way through the highways and waterways in and around Winchester.

This year there was also a 500 metre and 1k Fun Run event for younger athletes.

The athletes were guided by more than 40 volunteer marshals along the race route, which saw them start outside Winchester Guildhall.

The total amount raised by the 320 athletes and 24 teams was more than £15,000, which will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Mayor of Winchester was the official starter and, in a first for the event, joined in with the 3rd wave and completed the bike route with the rest of the cyclists.
