PRIMARY school children in Winchester are set for a date with the mayor.

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Jane Rutter, will present the Mayor’s Awards to Schools to pupils in the Winchester area.

A pair of awards will be presented to pupils chosen by the headteacher each time the Mayor visits a primary school in the District.

The awards will recognise progress, and good performance and each award will consist of a pin badge, certificate and a book token worth £20.

The Mayor’s Awards for Schools will be launched in September and Cllr Rutter is keen to visit as many schools as possible before the end of her Mayoral term in May 2017.

Cllr Rutter said:“I am very excited to be launching this new initiative to make a visit form the Mayor to one of our local primary schools even more special. I hope that headteachers will see the Mayor’s Awards for Schools as a way to recognise special children in their schools.”
