A MAN has been arrested following reports of an assault in Winchester High Street.

As reported a man was left with a head injury and was unconscious on the street following a daylight fight in the heart of Winchester.

Some witnesses say that the fight broke out when a bottle was “thrown at a baby”.

Now police say that shortly after the incident that happened at around 2.10pm that they arrested a 24-year-old from Winchester on suspicion of assault.

The man has been bailed until May 22.

A witness told the Chronicle yesterday when the incident happened :“I could see two men argue with each other, one of the men dressed in black with a hoody started pushing the other man, he then began threatening him and said he would “break his jaw”.

One person claimed that the man that had been attacked had been shouting and swearing at the time, “It wasn’t nice to see, he was punched pretty hard.”

One woman, who asked not to be named said: “The man hit him with a really hard punch and he just fell.”

Another man who witnessed the fight said: “He threw a bottle at a baby, and the man reacted and punched him.”
