Representatives of the Diocese of Winchester have just returned from a visit to the south Asian country of Myanmar formerly known as Burma.

The Diocesan chief executive Andrew Robinson and other representatives made a number of visits aimed at improving the Church’s shared work in education and understanding about the importance of social engagement.

Mr Robinson was joined by Nick Ralph from the Winchester Social Enterprise and Jo Waller on this fact finding visit.

Over the course of a week there were visits to an old age home and a school for the deaf, as well as meetings with coffee growers and the Myanmar Development Department.

The first meeting of the trip was with the Archbishop of Myanmar and Bishop of Yangon, the Most Revd Stephen Than Myint Oo.

During his trip Andrew Robinson said on the Diocese Facebook page: "We have handed over a new primary school reading scheme and some more children's favourites such as 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' and 'the Queen's Handbag' for children in the Province's pre-schools.

He added: “We met with the leaders of the Provincial development department and learnt about some amazing social enterprises."
