AHEAD of the general election Labour have been busy campaigning in Winchester.

Labour campaigners have been door knocking potential voters on the doorstep in Winnall and took their message to the heart of the city centre.

The party held a stall at the Buttercross where they aimed to convince voters there is an alternative to Theresa May.

It comes after Labour launched their manifesto last week, and have seen a slight rise in the polls.

Labour candidate for the Winchester and Chandler's Ford, Mark Chaloner said that campaigning is going well.

Mr Chaloner said: "We have had a great reception from local people following the launch of our manifesto this week with really strong policies including tackling the housing crisis, the cost of living and securing the future of our vital NHS.

"My wife has just had our third child at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and I have seen for myself how we need to support the dedicated professionals in our health service.

"There is real concern about some of the proposals in the Tory manifesto, especially from people concerned about how much they will have to pay for care as they get older and we are determined to give people here in Winchester a real alternative to Theresa may's hard Brexit and cuts agenda."
